Kansas

DSCN1939

Most of Kansas is human-modified landscape, the rest has been modified by the wind.  Near Great Bend there are good sites for Greater Prarie-Chicken like that shown above (see the Kansas Birds photo gallery for other species and additional photos of the Greater Prarie-Chicken).  In the same area there are some excellent wetlands; Quivera National Wildlife Refuge and Cheyene Bottoms.  Kansas is known for its fossils, may excavated from chalk cliffs (see the Kansas photo gallery).

For those interested in airplanes and automotive equipment a visit to the Mid-America Air Museum in Liberal may be worthwhile.  This musuem is noteworthy because of its exhibits of kit and personal aircraft.
