Northern Screamer

We saw the Northern Screamer within three hours of landing at Barranquilla, beside the road on our way to Ciénaga.

The Crowned Woodnymph, shown above, and the Brown Violetear, shown below were common at the El Dorado feeders.


The Band-tailed Guan flocks to the the lodge at El Dorado, especially in late afternoon.


Swarms of small fish attacted many Snowy Egrets to the Bay in Cartagena.

I spent 6 hours on the recording of a White-tipped Quetzal at the El Dorado Reserve in the Santa Marta Mountains.


This Black-hooded Thrush appeared on the trail in front of me as I walked back to my room after a long slog up a hill - no special effort involved.

The Yellow-headed Caracara can be found along the walls of the old city in Cartagena.

Southern Lapwing can be found along the shore of the lagoons within the city of Cartagena.

Yellow-crowned Parrots (above) and Brown-throated Parakeets can be found along the city walls of Cartagena.


Some of the large woodpeckers, like the Crimson-crested above can be found along the trails of the El Dorado Reserve in the Santa Marta Mountains.

In addition to the White-tipped Quetzal, the Masked Trogon can be found at the El Dorado Reserve.

The Large-billed Tern is one of several tern species found at the lagoons in Cartagena.

During my stay at the El Dorado Reserve I saw relatively few tanagers, but of those that I did, the Black-capped Tanager put on a show.

The Common Ground-Dove is (sigh) common in Cartagena.
