The Chambal River crossing is intermittent and variable.
During the dry season camels carrying firewood (or wood used
to make charcoal) can be seen fording the river. At this time, and
as the river begins to rise, large bladders form the support for a floating
bridge. During the monsoon, the bridge is taken out entirely.
